If there is already a file of the same name in that directory you may want to back it up before replacing it. ****************************************************************************** UNINSTALLATION: FreeSpace 2 has the original WEAPONS.TBL file inside a compressed .VP file. If you want to restore the original settings, simply remove the WEAPONS.TBL file from the FREESPACE2\DATA\TABLES\ directory. ****************************************************************************** NOTES: These changes are to address the ineffectiveness of capital ship turret lasers in FS2, as well as changing the Fenris' and Leviathans' Fusion Mortar into something useful. While the beam weapons still reign supreme in cap-to-cap, these "improved" turrets have different purposes, such as discouraging bombing runs, increasing subsystem damage to targets, etc. All changes are as balanced as I can make them among the turrets of both sides, without being repetative. The turrets in this document do not appear in the order that they do in the original .TBL file. They are arranged according to race, then "turret size". I've tested this MOD in a couple of missions and it works fine. One thing I would love to do but don't have the time is replay the main campaign, and maybe even other campaigns like Warzone and Derelict, and see how it plays with this MOD. Since the modifications are more or less balanced between the sides, it *should* work fine. If you do that, be sure and let me know what you think! Thanks! ============================================================================== -----------------------------=== Terran Turrets ===--------------------------- Terran Turret Weak ------------------ Purpose: An effective anti bombing-run weapon. Will disrupt target lock (MASS effects) as opposed to focusing on causing actual damage. - Increased MASS from 0.4 to 1.9 - Increased VELOCITY from 275 to 975 - Lowered LIFETIME from 5.0 to 1.5 - Increased RANGE from 1375 to 1462.5 results from changes in VELOCITY and LIFETIME. - Lowered FIRE RATE from 1.0 to 0.01 - Lowered ARMOR FACTOR from 1.25 to 0.45 - Lowered SHIELD FACTOR from 0.15 to 0.1 Terran Turret ------------- Purpose: General increase in lethality to make this a viable means of dealing damage, mainly to capital ships. - Increased VELOCITY from 275 to 700 - Increased RANGE (from 1375 to 3500) as a result of VELOCITY increase. - Lowered FIRE RATE from 1 to 0.1 - Increased base DAMAGE from 35 to 50 - Increased ARMOR FACTOR from 1.25 to 1.5 - Lowered SHIELD FACTOR from 0.85 to 0.1 Terran Huge Turret ------------------ Purpose: "Ion Cannon" effect (original ion cannon idea, as far as I know, came from the Volition Watch forums, by a chap who goes by the nic of "CODEDOG NG". Shield damage is minimal. - Increased VELOCITY from 175 to 575 - Lowered LIFETIME from 12 to 5.2 - Increased RANGE (from 2100 to 2990) as a result of VELOCITY increase. - Lowered FIRE RATE from 3 to 0.4 - Lowered ARMOR FACTOR from 1.25 to 0.5 - Lowered SHIELD FACTOR from 0.5 to 0.05 - Increased SUBSYSTEM FACTOR from 0.75 to 1.75 - Added "PUNCTURE" flag -----------------------------=== Shivan Turrets ===---------------------------- Shivan Weak Turret Laser ------------------------ Purpose: Bomber deterrent; relativly low ROF (rate-of-fire) with heavy shield damage - Increased VELOCITY from 350 to 700 - Lowered LIFETIME from 5 to 1.5 - Lowered RANGE from 1750 to 1050 as a result of changes in VELOCITY and LIFETIME - Lowered FIRE RATE from 0.7 to 0.4 - Lowered ARMOR FACTOR from 1 to 0.4 - Increased SHIELD FACTOR from 1 to 3 Shivan Turret Laser ------------------- Purpose: Anti cap-ship turret, shorter range, slower ROF and slower velocity than the Terran counterpart, but damage is increased. - Increased VELOCITY from 250 to 650 - Lowered LIFETIME from 5 to 4.0 - Increased RANGE from 1250 to 2600 as a result of VELOCITY and LIFETIME modifications. - Lowered FIRE RATE from 1.2 to 0.15 - Lowered SHIELD FACTOR from 1 to 0.03 - Increased SUBSYSTEM FACTOR from 1 to 1.2 Shivan Megafunk Turret ---------------------- Purpose: Heavy anti-capship weapon; high-speed, low ROF, near pure armor damage. - Increased VELOCITY from 120 to 980 - Lowered LIFETIME from 12 to 3.1 - Increased RANGE from 1440 to 3038 as a result of VELOCITY and LIFETIME changes. - Lowered SHIELD FACTOR from 0.25 to 0.02 - Lowered SUBSYSTEM FACTOR from 1 to 0.05 ---------------------------------=== Misc. ===--------------------------------- Fusion Mortar ------------- Purpose: Medium damage homing rocket. (Originally it had a base DAMAGE rating of 80, which, compared to the Trebuchet's 350, seemed a bit ridiculous.) - Increased VELOCITY from 100 to 180 - Lowered LIFETIME from 20 to 10 - Lowered RANGE from 2000 to 1800 as a result of VELOCITY and LIFETIME changes. - Increased FIRE RATE from 1 to 2.3 - Increased DAMAGE from 80 to 400 - Increased INNER RADIUS from 20 to 30 - Increased OUTER RADIUS from 40 to 80 - Lowered SHIELD FACTOR from 1 to 0.05 - Lowered SUBSYSTEM FACTOR from 1 to 0.2 - Added HOMING - HEAT with a TURN TIME (360 deg.) of 1.75 (Helios has 1.5) and a VIEW CONE of 50 deg.
